ABOUT
The Bamboo Forest is a 400m long pedestrian path which cuts through a thick forest of tall bamboo trees in the small town of Arashiyama, just outside of Kyoto.
There are many magical photos of the Bamboo Forest (or Bamboo Grove as it is also known). Walking through the grove of tall bamboo trees, and the way that the sunlight catches the tops of the trees, is quite beautiful.

ABOUT
Kyoto's famed 'Golden Pavilion', Kinkaku-ji is one of Japan's best-known sights. This three-tiered pavilion covered in brilliant gold leaf, shining above its reflecting pond is truly spectacular.
The reigning 14th century shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu obtained the grounds that now make up Kinkakuji Temple and built his vacation home, which he named Kitayamadono. Following his passing, the grounds were repurposed into a Zen Buddhist temple according to his wishes.
The garden of the Rokuonji Temple grounds, registered as both a unique historic and scenic landmark. At the heart of the garden's lush views and verdant scenery is Kyoko-chi Pond, the “mirror pond” that famously reflects the image of the Golden Pavilion.
It's best to go early in the day or just before closing, ideally on a weekday.

ABOUT
While there are a lot of different to-do things here, a worthwhile evening can be spent just by walking on some iconic streets and observing geisha and maiko in action (~ 18:00-20:00)
Shinbashi-dori (“New Bridge”) Street is a relaxed street filled with souvenir shops. It’s also perfect for strolling and geisha sightings. During cherry blossom season, the bridge — canopied in pink bushes — becomes a world of its own.
Hanamikoji-dori Street is a more active street than Shinbashi. The north part is packed with izakaya, while the south part boasts age-old traditional restaurants.
Shirakawa (“White River”) Street is a winding canal that cuts through Gion’s core. Ryokans, high-end restaurants, and hostess clubs abound on the endmost part of the canal.
